Russian company to use Sailfish OS components

Update, May 11, 2016: Jolla officially confirms licensing of Sailfish OS to a Russian company "Open Mobile Platform".

May 6, 2016, Innopolis, Tatarstan, Russia. New company "Открытая мобильная платформа" (Open Mobile Platform) is about to begin the development of domestic Russian operating system for mobile devices. The new mobile operating system is suggested to be based on components of Sailfish OS. The company is already hiring employees. Russia aims to reduce the use of foreign mobile operating systems from the current 95% to 75% by 2020, and to 50% by 2025. Android and iOS down?

Jolla Tablet refunds being processed

Jolla starts to issue refunds starting from pre-order customers

Those who ordered Jolla Tablet via Jolla Shop in autumn 2015 can expect a full refund in 2-3 weeks. To those who bough a perk via Indiegogo earlier, Juhani Lassila, Head of Communications at Jolla shares that the process continues on its all parts.

Jolla Tablets in China

Jolla tried to deliver more tablets, now sold by others on Taobao  

After Jolla's financial situation was partially resolved in December 2015 they did their best to deliver more slates to the Jolla Tablet campaign participants on Indiegogo. Jolla got 540 more, missed 400 slates already sold to others, and had to promise almost 10 000 backers a refund in two portions. Juhani Lassila from Jolla was very transparent on the China situation when I asked about it.

Lay-offs of 70 employees at Jolla have all been canceled, and Jolla is currently recruiting back their key resources. The aim is to continue with about half of the amount of Sailors compared to the situation before the lay-offs.

News update: Debts on hold at Jolla

Debt restructuring and Sailfish OS 2.0.1 update 

As part of Jolla's debt restructuring process, The Court in Finland has set Jolla's debts to temporary hold until the starting of the actual process is decided. In the meanwhile, Jolla is looking forward for financial round for December, and preparing the next system update for their Sailfish OS mobile operating system. Juhani Lassila, Head of Communications at Jolla, seems positive on financing.

New manufacturer of Sailfish OS phones is announced before summer holidays

Jolla might not announce a new phone of their own, as they are focused on delivering Sailfish OS mobile operating system to other manufacturers.

Update: New Sailfish OS phone manufacturer is located in India, and it will be announced during Mobile World Congress Shanghai on July 15 - 17, 2015

[News] Sailfish OS 2 will be more open

Jolla has plans to open Sailfish OS version 2

The news relates to the negotiations in Russia, where Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications is looking for alternatives for Android and iOS.

Communications Minister Nikolai Nikiforov was awarded the Russian YotaPhone smartphone running the mobile operating system (OS) Sailfish. According to him, Russia in the short term is unlikely to become a world leader in mobile devices, but YotaPhone running on Sailfish has "a great future."
