Jolla Phone and Koor Wood skins

DIY project - Sleep Catcher case, and few other options for Jolla Phone

My wife saw Koor Wood skins for smartphones and she couldn't resist them. Luckily, this manufacturer has notified Jolla Phone as well. But still, she wanted to have a full case too to keep her Jolla safe, so we ended up with this DIY project. Looking forward to see what else Jolla fans might come up with these skins.

Online shop demo in Namibia

The demo content suggests that the distributor might add new countries soon

Jolla opened sails towards Africa a while ago, and now their official distributor LexConsult is demoing an online store similar to one Jolla has in Europe. The demoed assortment includes the Jolla phone, The Other Half smartcovers and accessories, and suggests two new countries to deliver to.

Let's check this assortment, but please note that this is not the final list or pricing for Jolla products sold in Namibia. According to Jolla, the only confirmed products to be sold there are the phone and 3 different The Other Half models, and the only confirmed delivering country is Namibia.

Project follow up: TOH KBD

Two weeks ago we shared the QWERTY Keyboard project launch by Dirk van Leersum, Andrew Zhilin and Kimmo Lindholm.

Project reached the financial goal of 55 000 EUR in few hours, and it's now well above 100 000 EUR. Now, all three of you, how has it been?

The Other Half is an original Jolla innovation. With more than a fresh coat of paint, each colour option packs a unique ambience with custom tones, wallpapers and more. Your Jolla detects The Other Half and instantly adapts the look and feel of your phone with the wireless NFC technology.

The Other Half Developer kit (download for free)

The Other Half Developer kit includes

• official 3D print file
• ambience template files
• instructions for building ambience rpm packets
• instructions for using NFC UID and getting desired content downloadable for customers
• full technical specifications of TOH (i2c, bluetooth, power, NFC etc.) in a pdf file. Good images included.
• community licence

With this kit, 3rd parties are able to

• Construct The Other Halves (requires 3D printer)
• Develop TOH's which take advantage of i2c slave equipment, external charging, WLAN or Bluetooth connection

Community licence enables free developing of TOH for any 3rd party (non-commercial use). However, downloadable content (images, photos, tones, videos, apps (rpm) or other files) requires an agreement with Jolla, as downloading is always done from Jolla Store with unique NFC UID numbers. NFC tag is not required when developing TOH's without downloadable content.

NOTE: Making NFC tags requires empty tags & a possibility to save unique UID's to the tags. NFC tags are a must for any downloadable content, and range of UID's must be reserved from Jolla Store with an agreement between the content provider and Jolla.

As a community, we are looking forward for new DIY projects and commercial project taking advantage of this special feature of Jolla Smarphone. Jolla also wishes that some projects take  place at together.jolla.com, designers and customers doing it together (DIT). At Together, there are at least 3 discussions already involved directly into the subject, probably of lot of projects joining in later. Join the group!
