Russian company to use Sailfish OS components

Update, May 11, 2016: Jolla officially confirms licensing of Sailfish OS to a Russian company "Open Mobile Platform".

May 6, 2016, Innopolis, Tatarstan, Russia. New company "Открытая мобильная платформа" (Open Mobile Platform) is about to begin the development of domestic Russian operating system for mobile devices. The new mobile operating system is suggested to be based on components of Sailfish OS. The company is already hiring employees. Russia aims to reduce the use of foreign mobile operating systems from the current 95% to 75% by 2020, and to 50% by 2025. Android and iOS down?

[news] Sailfish OS was selected over Tizen in Russia

Projects on import substitution of infrastructural

Confirmed by official source, Jolla beats Samsung on operating system area.

Just yesterday, we shared a post claiming that Jolla's Sailfish OS was selected as a winner over Samsung's Tizen operating system in the Ministry of Telecommunications in Russia.

This is now confirmed. This news also confirms that there are not yet decisions of support, but if Jolla's Sailfish OS will be supported (as expected after winning), the official document advices to include "The Russian Mobile device", in practice meaning the YotaPhone

Jolla got it, Samsung didn't? - Sailfish OS YotaPhone discussed

Operating system Sailfish OS by Jolla selected among winners, over Tizen by Samsung

It's rumored that the Ministry of Telecommunications in Russia picked Sailfish OS over Tizen as their mobile device operating system.

Arguments in favor for Sailfish OS are better options for security, and for having Russian shareholders in a company Sailfish Holding.

If we'll see Sailfish OS powered YotaPhones, according to experts 1 million of those are expected to sell.

Sailfish OS & client OS workgroup of Expert Council in Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications in Russia

Moscow, February 18, 2015. — Nikolay Nikiforov, Minister of Telecom and Mass Communications, carried out third meeting of workgroup on client operating systems under Expert Council of Minsvyaz on Development of Information Technologies.

Heads of Jolla presented their independent mobile operating system (OS) Sailfish. Members of the meeting discussed perspective collaboration with heads of Jolla, particularly, use of Sailfish OS in state and private sectors taking into consideration technical, economic and political factors

Jolla's CEO Antti Saarnio has bodly stated that Sailfish OS (Jolla) aims to be the 3rd major Mobile Phone Operating System, lining up with Android (Google) and iOS (Apple) in the future. After Jolla phone India launch we can see this journey in the beginning.

Not a smartphone, but a Smart Watch Phone Samsung Gear S powered by Tizen OS, including phone calls and HERE Maps with navigation. Is this  going to compete of the same customers and app developers with Sailfish OS and Jolla?
