Operating system of Jolla Tablet is Sailfish OS 2.0 - a Linux based open source project with a history of Maemo and Meego (Nokia N9). It runs Sailfish apps and supports running Android apps as well.

Sailfish OS 1.0 is running on one device only: Jolla Phone, which has been in the markets for 1 year. Customers are waiting for each update, and so far there's been already 9 bigger ones and a few hotfixes. Latest version 1.0.8.21 is expected to be replaced with a newer release soon.

Jolla Oy is a Finnish company developing the operating system. Jolla is not aiming to be a device manufacturer, and both Jolla Phone and the upcoming Jolla Tablet can be seen as presentation platforms for the new user experience offered by Sailfish OS. Jolla is looking forward for device manufacturers, including Nokia, to licence their operating system. Sailfish OS competes with Android and iOS with its unique, gesture based user experience and buttonless design.

  1. It's worth mentioning that the $279 price for the Jolla phone includes delivery* which would cost €15 in the Jolla store.

    * for the phone NOT the tablet which is still +$20

    1. As the phone is delivered only with the tablet, I suppose that mention would more likely just mix people. The shipping needs to be paid only once, for the tablet, and the phone can be added to the order without adding another shipping cost (or place the ComboPack order, and add one shipping cost to that).

Maybe it would have been better to include the shipping cost into the tablet price already from the beginning, as this might still mix up some customers. Well, it's the way it is

    2. I get your point about including the price (although it is a sales technique to make it look cheaper), but my point was that the phone is even cheaper when you consider that shipping is included (the current store price is €349 + €15 shipping).

Btw the phone is shipped asap (December according to the blurb on the Perk), so you could understand if they had charged two sets of shipping fees.
