  • Please make sure to have developer mode enabled before updating
  • If possible -- update the device while connected to a charger
  • Please ensure that you have ~1.5GB of free disk space before attempting to upgrade your Jolla
  • If you use patchmanager, revert all applied patches before upgrading
  • If your device is running software version lower than 1.0.4.20 and have WareHouse app installed (i.e you are using OpenRepos), disable all openrepo repositories before attempting to upgrade your device.
  • Do not reboot the device while the update is in progress.
  • The device screen may blank out during the update process, you may waken the display by a short press on the power key to monitor the progress.

UPDATE2 2015-04-19 10:31 UTC

The naming of releases has been slightly changed:
  • previous "update" is now "upgrade", or simply "u13" (for upgrade 13)
You can recognize an upgrade by the first three numbers changing
    (for example 1.1.2.x to 1.1.4.x)
  • previous "hotfix" is now "update"
You can recognize an update by only the 4th number changing
    (for example: 1.1.4.28 to 1.1.4.30)
Additionally, by what was said in the release notes, u12 was never released: "1.1.3/u12 got dropped early in the RC phase". We're guessing the name for upgrade 12 would have been "Åvikinjärvi", as it's about the only Finnish lake name following as next in the Scandinavian alphabet (...Y,Z,Å,Ä,Ö)

Åvikinjärvi, Somero, Finland source

The official naming for this Early Adopter release is
upgrade 13 / u13 "Sailfish OS 1.1.4.28 Äijänpäivänjärvi"

[outdated] UPDATE1 2015-04-17 10:40 UTC

Early Adopter release is currently on hold: "About 0.8% of the devices have statefs missing after the upgrade, which -- unless developer mode is already installed -- can only be fixed by factory reset. We're putting the rollout on hold until at least Monday to investigate."

ORIGINAL POST 2015-04-16 18:28 UTC

Today we’re announcing the early release of the next Sailfish OS software update (Äijänpäivänjärvi) for opt-in users. What new in this update?

As previously, the update is first made available as an early release to more advanced users who have opted in to be among the first to try it. Read about the procedure here. In about one week we will release the update to everyone as a normal software release.

For this software release we’ve made some important fixes for the Android application support, which should make the user experience even better than before. Many security fixes have also been on the list, plus improvements to applications and features, including:

  • Maps are now available in landscape mode, meaning you can use them regardless of orientation
  • Keyboard: the virtual keyboard can now be divided into two parts in landscape mode, making it easier to write with both hands
  • Email: IMAP idle/push support is now added to mail accounts, meaning that your email inbox should be up to date all the time
  • Gestures: the swipe gesture has been changed providing better feedback to the user (try it out and you’ll see!)
Certain changes coming from Facebook (XMPP chat API will no longer be available after April 30, 2015), means unfortunately losses in functionality: FB instant messaging and contacts sync are not supported in SailfishOS anymore.

After installing this OS upgrade the previously synced Facebook contact details will disappear from your People app. We have initiated talks with Facebook in an attempt to find a way forward.
For more details on this update, see the full release notes here

We hope you enjoy the update Äijänpäivänjärvi! And do try to pronounce the name :)

On behalf of the Jolla Team,
Juhani

  1. Regarding the last linked post above (...rolling out for Early Adopeter too early), I'm sharing here an important comment, submitted to TJC on April 16th, 2015 by one of the developers:

"First: Directly updating via pkcon is dangerous, and may brick your device. version --dup avoids this, but does not do repository isolation, and may break your device if you have 3rd party repositories enabled during update."

"Second: Releases are available on public infrastructure a short time before releasing so we're capable of doing update tests exactly as it'll be for end users. This means, if there are problems breaking your device on update they'll show up in that short period between "available on public infra" and "early access" -- and breaking your device during that period will _not_ be covered by warranty. We do not actively prevent anyone from getting their hands on those "close to release" versions, but you should only use it if you know the risks, and have a rescue system prepared to restore your device in case of failure."

NOTE: Update was officially released to Early Adopters TODAY, and should be available via Settings > Sailfish OS updates, if you have joined the Early Adopters program using your Jolla account settings. Those who have, looking forward for your bug reports at TJC - You help many users sending those, sail on!

  2. This is update 13, not 12 ;-)
"This is the early access release of upgrade 1.1.4 (u13, 1.1.3/u12 got dropped early in the RC phase)"
